Asus P320 firmware upgrade

I finally managed to upgrade my phone to the latest Firmware P320_V4_15_0_V4_10_V1_11_0_WWE

So I figured I it would be helpful to explain how it is done. The first step is to go the the asus site and download the latest firmware for the phone.

http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx

Select Mobile phones ---> P Series ---> P320 ---> Windows Mobile

In the firmware make sure you download the latest file for your country.

eg. ASUS PDA Phone firmware P320_V4_15_0_V4_10_V1_11_0_WWE only for India, Malaysia, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Lithuania user of English language version

Backup all your files / data / contacts because everything gets wiped clean.

Upgrade procedure:
1. After downloading P320_V4_15_0_V4_10_V1_11_0_WWE.ZIP, please unzip it

2. Please directly copy folder “2577” into the root directory of your micorSD card. Please insert microSD card into P320 after the copy

3. Keep the battery in charge during upgrade procedure

4. Please follow the steps on the phone to upgrade

5. Press and hold Volume Down key (on left side, shown below) and poke reset button (on bottom side), the system will boot up. Then release reset button and continue to hold Volume Down key until the screen shows writing percentage

6. The system will start installation automatically

7. It will re-start when system installation is completed

8. System will start upgrading after touch panel calibration and date/time setting

You should know be on the latest firmware ! Do drop me a line if this worked for you. If your feeling generous
you could donate a dollar via paypal :)

The TFTP USB error could be for various reasons. Have you disconnected the USB cable from the computer ? Please do so, also make sure the 50 MB filename is all in capitals including the extension.

Lastly, copy the file from the 2577 directory and place it in the root directory as well.

Let mek now whether it works out !

  7. This in reference to step no 2 of the firmware upgradation where u have said - "Please directly copy folder “2577” into the root directory of your micorSD card. Please insert microSD card into P320 after the copy" - can you give more clarity on this point. How can I insert the microsd card after copying "2577" file in it??

    ReplyDelete
  8. I am facing the same problem as 'Anonymous'... i copied the '2577' file in the root of MicroSD afterwhich the autorun file ran and the installation was done. Post that a messeage appeared saying "to complete installation hold down volume key and with the stylus poke the reset button in the botton" - so i did that and the error came "TFPT USB Download!!! Please insert USB!!!"

  9. @vihang

Try what I have mentioned above.

    1. Make sure the filename and extension are in capitals.
    2. Copy the file to the root of the SD card.

    3. Take out usb cable from the phone while upgrading.

    Let me know !

  12. To upgrade from 4.13 to 4.15, I copied 2577 in the root of the card. Also copied the 66 mb file from 2577 to root of the card. Also changed the whole file name to uppercase.BIN. Unplugged the usb cable. Followed the instructions. Still the same stubborn error: TFTP USB DOWNLOAD !!!! Insert USB cable !!!!
Please help. I wonder why everyone is not getting this error.
    Thanks in advance.

You don't need to hold for that long, just hold the volume down button and poke the soft reset with your stylus.

If your still having problems try running the exe that came with the download, it copies the file to the right path if you have not done that already but you still need to hold the volume down button. Hope that helps ....

  33. Here are the steps of upgrading your Asus P320 firmware to 4.15:
1.Download the firmware 4.15 from Asus official website.
2.Format your microsd with FAT file format instead of FAT32 because I use FAT32 and I got this error:
    cant find images
cant find galaxy bla bla bla
3.Turn on your phone without memory card inserted. After your phone boot normally, insert the memory card.
4.The system will ask you whether you want to upgrade or not. Click next, and it will start preparing (wait for about 5 minutes).
5.After that, it will ask to hold down the volume down button and poke the reset button.
6.Do as it ask, and the upgrading will started. It tooks about 15-20 minutes to complete.
7.Thats it, your phone now have 4.15 firmware.
    8. Thanks to this forum who show me how to upgrade my P320. God bless you all!!!

  56. Dear Kumar,

Have seen people losing their IMEI number but even that is now resolvable. Have never come across hardware corruption on this phone due to firmware upgrade.

Its not worth replacing for 75% of the cost IMHO.

  62. Hello All,

MY ASUS P320 just one fine day stopped , after a battery discharge.Struggled a lot with getting it work with Firmware upgrades and all,but my touch screen is non-responsive totally.I am convinced that ASUS as a company sucks.Every product they make is half cooked ...Laptop sucks, mobile phone super sucker.ASUS should just stop making products and reduce green gas generation and some mental stress of a lot of user.

  63. Hello, I have an Asus P320, it was a Christmas gift, and the firmware is in chinese (CHT). I love it, but there are some problems happening and I think is the firmware - older than the 4.10 version. I would love to upgrade it to the last firmware, but the step 4 "Please follow the steps on the phone to upgrade" will be in chinese and my friend is now living in Taiwan so... could anyone put the step-by-step of step 4 described in here? I searched Google and Youtube but this step is a great mistery to me and I´m afraid of commiting an error because she is not here to save me if I break my PDA...

  64. If you get "Header_crc error" message, check these:
    - format your microSD card to FAT
    - make a 2577 folder to the root
    - copy the FLASH.BIN to the root
    - take out the battery and put it back
    - press and hold the Volume Down button and pick the Reset
    - keep down the Volume Down while the writing is beginning
